Job description:

  • As a Gastroenterology, your expertise lies in diagnosing and treating disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which includes the organs involved in digestion, such as the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, small intestine, and large intestine (colon)
  • Here are some key responsibilities and tasks associated with this specialization:Patient Consultations and Examinations: Meet with patients to assess their medical history, perform physical examinations, and discuss their symptoms and concerns related to the GI system
  • This includes conducting thorough interviews to gather relevant information and ordering diagnostic tests as necessary
  • Diagnostic Procedures: Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures specific to gastroenterology, such as endoscopy (including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy), liver biopsies, capsule endoscopy, and imaging studies (eg, abdominal ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI)
  • These procedures help evaluate the structure and function of the GI tract and aid in the diagnosis of various conditions
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnose and manage a wide range of GI disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), liver diseases (such as hepatitis or cirrhosis), pancreatic disorders, and gastrointestinal cancers
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, which may include medications, lifestyle modifications, dietary recommendations, or surgical interventions
  • Endoscopic Interventions: Perform therapeutic procedures during endoscopy, such as removing polyps, placing stents, performing balloon dilation, banding varices, or obtaining tissue samples (biopsies) for further examination
