Job description:
Supervision and Coordination:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of blood bank personnel & nurses
- Assign tasks, prioritize workload, and ensure efficient workflow within the blood centre.
Blood Collection and Processing:
- Oversee blood collection procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with donor services or external blood suppliers to maintain an adequate supply of blood and blood products.
- Identifies and communicates abnormal test reports by alerting supervisory personnel and safe disposal of TTI reactive units as per BMW regulation
Testing and Compatibility:
- Ensure accurate and timely performance of blood typing, antibody screening, and cross matching tests, IH testing and TTI screening.
- Review test results, interpret findings, and make decisions regarding blood product suitability for transfusion.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Monitor quality control procedures, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and validation of reagents.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., D and C act and rules) and hospital policies related to blood banking practices.
- Assist in preparation of SOPs
- Perform and maintain records of QC procedures related to reagent, kits & equipments
Inventory Management:
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of blood components (e.g., packed red blood cells, platelets, plasma) to meet patient needs.
- Monitor blood product expiration dates and implement proper rotation and disposal procedures.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Oversee the accurate documentation of donor information, blood product specifications, and test results.
- Maintain confidential records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies and hospital administration as required.
Emergency Response and Transfusion Support:
- Coordinate emergency blood requests and ensure timely provision of blood products for transfusion.
- Provide expertise and support to healthcare providers regarding blood product availability, transfusion guidelines, and adverse reaction management.
- Perform Apheresis procedures like Single donor platelet collection, Granulocyte collection, Stem cell collection.
Training and Development:
- Train new staff members on blood banking procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate continuing education and professional development opportunities for blood bank personnel.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff, to coordinate transfusion therapy and ensure optimal patient care.
Communicate effectively with hospital departments & external blood suppliers, regarding blood banking operations and compliance issues.
